“Jim would be an average employee if he had a better manager.”
unfortunately neither Del or I know much about Kant, but this did cause us to have a lengthy conversation this morning.
Kant said that, I paraphrase, That rational human beings should be treated as an end in themselves and not as a means to something else.
HR is all about ‘using’ people to an end which they, the manager, have selected and imposed (in some way or another) on another person. So, this little one-liner suggests that a ruthless HR manager will, in a single sentence ‘motivate’ both the worker & his manager.
Chris-you are like vintage wine-best left in the cellar.Such gems of wisdom need to be kept under wraps
hmm, not sure how motivational it would actually be for either manager or employee. But maybe we can use it for discussion when you next visit. That wee sentence certainly made us think.
I confess I had to look here to understand the point, but it’s a good comment on the arrogance of HR!!
