The current £300bn defence budget misses the point. It assumes, wrongly, that the war will happen somewhere else. Britain will drop nuclear bombs and the aircraft carriers will be cutting edge weapons. But if the war is in Britain what is needed is ground to air missiles at key strategic sites like the Dartford Tunnel, Heathrow and Felixstowe.
