Book Review: Norman Mailer ~ The Naked and the Dead (1949)

How do you review a masterpiece?

This is a work of staggering genius and, if possible, was better for a 50 year gap between readings. Obviously I bookmarked sections in preparation for this review, which is very easy in Kindle editions, but on re-reading them – there were many- I knew it was useless. It would have been like taking a tooth out of someone’s beautiful mouth and asking for an opinion.

It’s far and away the best war book I’ve read, indeed one of the best books I’ve ever read. So I’ll leave it at that. You can either take the bait or walk on but I’ve done my, not very good, best.
