As The World Went By.

I thought I loved
As my youth went by –
Time passed, my curious eye
Often watched in wonder…
Under, my stoic gaze…
(Sometimes – in a drunken haze)…
Lost carefree days, in those wayward ways.
Then, when thunder dashed the dream
It seemed hurt raged – supreme
Lost alone in desolation
No aspiration to face another day…
Smashed a heart in tears
Memories to stab as souvenirs.
She smiled across that Rubicon stream
A tempting – dream so sweet…
How incomplete my past then seemed
As tempting paths led to – no more sorrow
Each golden tomorrow – I snatched to borrow
That love that comes without the barbed arrow
Freely given – but with trust
Some would say like angle dust.
Now I no longer cry.
