Book Review: Robert Harris ~ Archangel (1998)

The wonderful thing about Harris is that he’s reliable. He isn’t a book-a-year author featuring drunken, music-loving Detective Inspectors, or psychopathic vigilantes as the principal character. He writes *proper* novels. His stories are carefully plotted. Brilliantly well-written, researched and with a page turning gripping narrative. His novels are automatic best sellers.

He has surpassed himself with this prophetic novel.

Try this:

“Economic crash, and that’s coming, don’t you think?”

“And?”

Isn’t it obvious? Hitler. They haven’t found their Hitler yet. But when they do, it’s watch out world.” pp127-8

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Harris points out the huge popularity of Stalin.

“You hail a taxi in Munich – you don’t find the driver displaying Hitler’s portrait…..Hitler’s birthplace isn’t a shrine….Hitler isn’t routinely praised as a great patriot by leading German politicians.” p157

All of which points directly at Putin two years before he gained power and 14 years before he knocked-off Crimea – without a bleat from the world.

Warmly recommended
