Stella

I wasn’t embarrassed even though it was embarrassing
She refused to play with the other children and
Said, “They’re too stupid to play with!” In her piercing voice.

I smiled a little smile, an uncomfortable smile
Then she said, “It’s true isn’t it Daddy?” That’s when
I knew I was skewered by my famous honesty.

“They’re not all stupid sweetheart.” Trying to calm matters
“Who isn’t stupid, Daddy? Which one!” She challenged me
And then I was truly embarrassed, mortified and pleased.
